If you follow me on Instagram you know by now that I like to experiment with different materials. And here is my latest experiment documented for you.
Step 1: Set Up Your Foil Quill Tool
The first step is to set up your Foil Quill tool with your electronic cutting machine I have a Silhouette Cameo. Install the Foil Quill adapter into the knife holder of your cutting machine, and then attach the Foil Quill pen tip that you'll be using for your project. You'll also need to plug in your Foil Quill tool into an outlet. Tip: do not use your laptop or power bank, it is best to use straight from the outlet for more power.

Step 2: Prepare Your Design
Once your Foil Quill tool is set up, it's time to prepare your design. You can use a pre-made design or create your own in your cutting machine software. I use the Silhouette Studio software. Don't forget to align your design wit your ribbon on the mat, the grids are helping a lot!
Step 3: Set Up Your Satin Ribbon
Cut a length of satin ribbon to your desired size and then lay it flat on your cutting mat. Secure the ribbon with tape to keep it in place while you work. Tip: use the strong adhesive cutting mat from cricut.(purple or pink)
Step 4: Apply the Foil
Tape down your chosen foil color on the ribbon and turn on your machine. Choose a wider ribbon for bigger surface. Let the Foil Quill tool heat up for a few minutes. Once it's ready, you can start the foiling process, make sure you foil on the lowest speed, as the tool needs to be hot for a longer time. The foil will transfer onto the ribbon wherever the Foil Quill tool comes into contact with it.
Step 5: Finish Your Ribbon
Once your design is complete, carefully remove any excess foil from the ribbon with a soft cloth or a small brush. If you want to secure the foil on the ribbon, you can use a pressing cloth and iron on a low setting for a few seconds. And that's it! Your beautiful foil design on satin ribbon is now complete.
With these simple steps, you can easily create beautiful foil designs on your ribbon projects. Experiment with different designs and foil colors to create a unique look for your special occasions. Happy crafting everyone!
